Curriculum

At Stockbridge we take account of the children's individual personality, learning styles and preferences when planning and delivering the curriculum. Teachers endeavour to actively involve children in their learning. Targets are set for and by the pupils. Learning intentions are shared with the children and children agree success criteria for their learning. Children work individually, with partners and in groups at various times in order to provide both support and challenge for their learning.

Computer skills are taught and applied across the curriculum. All classrooms have interactive smart boards.

Our Methods:

Children will be taught as part of the whole class, in a group or as an individual, in order that the curriculum can be tailored as far as possible to fit the needs of each child. Discussion, where pupils plan work and share ideas, is an intergral part of the learning process.

The teacher will plan to use a variety of approaches, from direct interactive teaching to enquiry-based learning. From the earliest stages children are encouraged to be independent in their learning, and, as they mature, they are taught to develop effective study skills. Learning intentions are displayed and shared with the children.

The 5-14 Curriculum

Teachers plan to deliver a carefully planned and balanced programme across the core areas of: Language, Mathematics, Environmental Studies, Health Education, Religious and Moral Education, Personal and Social Development and Expressive Arts.

For more detailed information on the individual subjects see our handbook.
